Outside Reading #2

Later in the book Twilight, by Stephenie Meyer, we start to see more human like characteristics of Edward which also serves as a lesson for the readers of the book. Instead of his perfect looks, irresistible voice, and swift movements, he starts to show and understand jealousy. “But jealousy… it’s a strange thing. So much more powerful than I would have thought. And irrational!” (Meyer 304). What Edward is jealous about are other guys liking Bella. He has never loved anyone before Bella, and is now understanding what jealousy feels like and what power it has over people, or in this case, vampires. This is not only a lesson for Edward but also, Stephenie is showing her readers how jealousy has such a big effect on people. Edward is usually calm and collected, when he starts to talk about the other guys who like Bella he becomes upset and irrational, which is a complete transformation.
