Holidays

Every year the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade varies in the huge floats that take part in the parade, but every year the route of the final stretch is the same. The floats are drivin down Broadway from Columbus Circle to Herald Square, through crowds lining the Great White Way. But this next year, this tradition might change. The plan unveiled last month by Mayor Micheal R. Bloomberg, is that he wants to turn Broadway into a pedestrian-only zone around Times Square and Herald Square this spring. If this plan is put into action, then no cars can drive on Broadway, so a car pulling a float has no chance of being able to drive on it. A group has assembled to figure out a alternate route of the parade. Even though it is breaking the tradition of the Thanksgiving Day Parade, over the years, Broadway has proven itself to be a not ideal location to have the parade because it is not wide enough for the huge floats.
