Quarter 3: Hope

Because of the copper boom, Zambia's economy is finally growing. Because of this sudden growth, the people of Zambia have a new found hope. Although Zambia is still in the "bottom billion" of the world's poorest people, the media states that things are starting to look up for them. Zambia has an incredibly weak economy, and trade is very slow. Their government is a mess and the people there are living in complete poverty. Hope is a powerful thing that can make a difference in people’s ability to tolerate poverty. Just this small flicker of hope with the copper boom is an amazing thing for the people of Zambia, because they are one step closer to having an even remotely stable government. So, even though they are still in poverty, it might be a little bit easier knowing that there is some hope out there and that people are listening and do care.
