Hero in a Box

Intro
While researching heroes, I decided to focus on heroes in the everyday town or community. I noticed in my findings that there were two different types of community heroes; one who protect the community, and others who help the community grow. These heroes are in each community and they enable the towns the function, stay safe, and grow year round.

Heroes Who Protect the Community

FIREFIGHTERS
A Tribute to Firefighters

This video is a tribute to all the firefighters. In this video it says that the firefighters risk their lives to help others. As an example, it shows the world trade centers on 9/11. This is an excellent example. All of those firefighters saved thousands of lives after the tragedy and also cleaned up the city. Even if not all firefighters are not faced with such a big task, they are all heroes, in the fact that they risk their lives to save others.

POLICE
"A Cop's Sixth Sense"

I HEAR THE NERVOUSNESS AS HE CALLS OUT THE STOP,
ITS LIKE HAVING A SIXTH SENSE BEING A COP.

I ROLL THAT WAY, THINKING OF WHAT IT MIGHT BE.
A DUI, A SPEEDER, OR A KILLER READY TO FLEE?
EACH COP SEEMS TO BUILD THIS SENSE.
SOMETHING THAT ALERTS YOU, MAKES YOU TENSE.

I BLACK OUT AS I ROLL UP ON MY PARTNERS’ PATROL.
COVER NOW MY JOB, AS WE CONTACT THE DRIVER, NOW ON PAROLE.

HE’S NERVOUS AND SWEATING, SEEMS UP TO NO GOOD.
A COMPUTER CHECK REVEALS HE’S BANNED FROM THIS “HOOD.”

RE-APPROACHING THE CAR, RED AND BLUE FLASHES OFF MY GOLD STAR.
WE ASK HIM TO STEP OUT, NOT SURE WHAT HE’LL DO, NOT SURE WHAT MAY BE IN THE CAR.

I MAINTAIN MY COVER POSITION AS MY PARTNER ASKS,
“WHAT BRINGS YOU DOWN HERE, WHAT MISSION, WHAT TASKS?”

THE MAN STUTTERS, KEEPS LOOKING BACK AT HIS CAR.
WITH CONSENT, I SEARCH THE SEDAN, I THEN FIND A .45 KAHR.

SAFETY OFF, HOLLOW-POINT IN THE CHAMBER,
THIS MAN’S LOOKING FOR HIS SOON TO BE EX-WIFE AND FILLED FULL OF ANGER.

THE MAN IS ARRESTED, THANKS TO A COP TRIED AND TESTED.
TO LISTEN TO THAT SIXTH SENSE, THAT'S HOW BAD GUYS GET ARRESTED!

This poem shows the daily routine of pulling over a car as a police men. Not only does it describe the situation is also describes the dangers, like not knowing how the suspect is going to act. This is also a good example where they protected a person of their community. The man that this cop and his partner pulled over had a gun and was going to kill his wife and perhaps other people if they got in his way. So, police men are also an example of a community hero that protects the people.

CROSSING GUARDS

This picture shows a crossing guard stopping traffic for kids so they can cross the street to get to school. Crossing Guard in every town protect the children going to school. Also, many people act not only as a crossing guard but also a traffic director. This enables the children and others across the street safely and also minimizes traffic and accidents.

Heroes Who Enable the Community to Develop

TEACHERS

Number One Teacher
I'm happy that you're my teacher;
I enjoy each lesson you teach.
As my role model you inspire me
To dream and to work and to reach.
With your kindness you get my attention;
Every day you are planting a seed
Of curiosity and motivation
To know and to grow and succeed.
You help me fulfill my potential;
I'm thankful for all that you've done.
I admire you each day, and I just want to say,
As a teacher, you're number one!

This poem demonstrates the importance of teacher to the development to communities. Not only do they provide knowledge to the children, but they are also a source of inspiration and are role models. This enriches the lives of the children and also will lead them to a better future, and will be more motivated to succeed. If the kid's experience at that certain town, maybe in the future when they have their own family, they will live in the same city, and therefore the town will have a bigger population.

LIBRARIANS

Librarians also serve as a teacher of the community, but for everyone, even the adults. They also are their to help you with any resources you would need and help you find what is necessary for studies, work, or just leisure past time. This picture shows you that they are willing to cater to any of your needs and are very helpful.
Conclusion
In all, while I was researching community heroes I noticed that there are too groups that evenly contribute to the community, but have different affects of their work. Heroes who protect the community and its inhabitants; for example firefighters, police, and crossing guards. Also, heroes who help the community develop; for example teacher and librarians. Both of these group enable the community they are serving to grow and stay safe.

Kilt,

Loved your "Heroes in a Box"! It got me to think about how much more I should value community heroes than I really do!
